Father was drunk and speeding in crash that killed son, authorities say

A Madison County man is jailed on a manslaughter charge in the DUI crash that killed his son during the early morning hours of June 11, 2016.

Phillip Wayne Hall Sr., 57, was under the influence of alcohol when his 2004 Dodge truck left Cherry Tree Road around 2:40 a.m. that Saturday, according to a crash report and prosecutors. His son, Phillip Wayne Hall Jr., died in the crash. He was 35.

The father was driving an estimated 70 mph as the southbound truck entered a curve between Poplar Ridge Road and Buddy Drive, according to the crash report obtained by AL.com. It was dark on the two-lane country road.

Man to plead guilty in wrong-way DUI crash that killed a mother, boyfriend and child, lawyer says

The Huntsville man accused of driving under the influence of alcohol in an Interstate 565 crash that killed 3 people is expected to plead guilty Monday.

Carai Cortez is charged with three counts of reckless murder in the May 19, 2016 deaths of Alexa Jeanne Hannig, 22, of Huntsville, her 3-year-old son Hayden Martella and her boyfriend, Benjamin Johnson, 21, of Scottsboro. Cortez also is charged with DUI.

The 24-year-old from Huntsville was scheduled to appear in Madison County Circuit Court for a status conference this morning. But, the hearing was canceled after his defense attorney filed a motion stating Cortez intends to plead guilty.

North Alabama DUI suspect runs from cops and jumps in Tennessee River after chase

A 47-year-old man was arrested this past weekend after running from police and sheriff’s deputies in Madison County.

Clifton Raabe was driving a Camaro on Hobbs Island Road without the headlights turned on Friday evening when a Madison County deputy attempted to pull him over, authorities said. Raabe, a 47-year-old from Owens Cross Roads fled and entered the Huntsville city limits, said sheriff’s Lt. Brian Chaffin. The deputy lost sight of Raabe and Huntsville officers joined the search.

Madison mayor Paul Finley’s wife clocked at 103 mph when stopped, charged with DUI, police say

Madison County, Alabama:

The wife of newly elected Madison Mayor Paul Finley was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, according to Madison County jail records.

Julie Finley, 50, was booked into jail at 6:14 p.m. Wednesday and released at 6:30 a.m. Thursday on a $1,000 bond, according to jail records.
